Two job interviews tomorrow. Both by phone, and both will want an in-person interview next week if all goes well. Here's hoping all goes well.
The first one is in Anaheim, apparently close enough to Disneyland to see it from the window. That's kinda cool. This is the same company that decided not to hire somebody for this position a few months ago. A different division of the company, however, saw the original plan and decided it would be a good idea. I'd be managing a team of six other SCM engineers (the largest group I've ever been a manager of), and creating procedures for software development throughout all seven of the companies owned by this one. A very challenging project. It looks like my experience with Geeks Without Borders will actually be useful here. In addition to setting SCM policies, I'll be in charge of budgeting for the department. Managing a budget for an SCM department that spans seven major corporations will be a bit more challenging than setting the GWoB budget, but at least I've got the experience now to know it's possible. I'm looking forward to it.
The position starts out as a six-month contract, and if they like me will possibly hire me permanently after that. Unfortunately, since it's a contract position, they're not paying any of the usual benefits, like relocation help, so I'll be on my own to move down there. Hey,
docscarabus, can you recommend an apartment in the area that'll cost me less than $4000 up front to move into? I figure I can just toss everything I'm taking into my Jeep and drive down...
Speaking of my Jeep, it's working again. Yay!
whpingboy came over yesterday and replaced the power steering pump while I and
reynard52 were stuck in traffic trying to deliver a laptop to Waldport (from where it's departing to India to help out a bunch of different people over there, including a leper colony (I didn't know there was such a thing anymore!) and some remote islands near Goa, where tourists aren't allowed to visit. (The islands, not Goa. In Goa, they got so many Americans moving over there in the 60's that "Hippie" is the general term for an American tourist to this day!)
Other job interview is in Chicago, with a company who contacted me just last week. They sent me this giant stupid form to fill out, but I guess they liked my answers because they called me back the next day to set up an interview. So I'll be talking to a few people there tomorrow, too, and hopefully flying out to Chicago some time next week. This one, if I get the job, will pay for relocation, but so far I haven't spoken to anybody who knows what the salary is...
This weekend (tomorrow, actually), I'm heading down south to be the best man in my friend's wedding near Los Gatos. It's a renaissance-themed wedding, and there's been constant trouble with stuff like ordering the garb. After settling on a theme, the particular style was discontinued after about half the party had ordered it, and then they sent me the wrong color shirt, and sent the maid of honor the wrong stuff altogether. I finally got the last piece, the shirt, in the right color, yesterday. I first placed the order for everything about four months ago.
Other than taxes (quarterly corporate taxes - yick, I hate them), various other paperwork, and my DMV woes (finally resolved, as detailed in previous posts), that's my life these days...
