The Saga of Avec-garl
Jul. 1st, 2016 07:48 pmThe Saga of Avec-garl
This is one of my favorite gaming stories. I have told perhaps two or three people ever. This is the first time I've shared it with a general audience.
Back in the late 80's, I ran a D&D game in Stockton. It lasted about three years total, full of epic battles, great triumphs, loss, redemption, saving the world a couple of times. The usual. It ended with all the surviving characters grown powerful and retiring from the adventuring life, going their separate ways. Eventually, they all became NPCs in my ongoing world with other groups.
Those who've played in my games know the names: Brightfist the Wise, high priest of Pelor in Pendwy. Engel the Laughing, in his secret lair near the town of Tenn, bordering three kingdoms and allied with none. King Ta'an, aka Tannis the Half-Elf, ruling the united Southlands. Sir Tuck, the dimension-hopping brewmeister and spylord to King Ta'an.
But there's one name nobody knows.

Haphae-lad lodash vo maladin
Dec. 17th, 2010 10:24 amHeh. I've never actually "quit" a group I was running a campaign for - most of my D&D campaigns, like most others - just kind of fizzle out.
But I got a kick out of Gabe's letter to his players when he quit:

It's always a problem when a DM's expectations of what the game's going to be like are radically different from those of the players. It's really up to the DM to manage expectations, while simultaneously fitting things to what the players want. It's a delicate balance, and one that's often a challenge to maintain.
But, as they say, therein lies the fun.

Really Important Stuff

Two of my interests coincided today: marketing and D&D.
If you have no interest in these topics, time to move on.

I need a new pantheon.
No, not in real life, more than enough gods there already. I want a new pantheon for my D&D world. And, as laziness is one of the prime virtues of a good DM, I'm enlisting the aid of everyone reading this to help me create one.
So, here's what I want everyone reading to do, if you want to help me out: (c'mon, it'll be fun!)
