So, last night, after finishing Order of the Phoenix, the thought came to me that, even as I was sitting there out in the garden, somewhere there were probably a group of people gathered in a basement somewhere in Iraq plotting their next attack in an effort to throw off the occupation of their home. The best way to go about doing it, of course, would be with the goal of making it so expensive to occupy that the invaders would not be able to reap a profit from their exploitation of the land. Which means the most effective thing for a resistance movement to do would be to attack the US's oil pipelines and refineries. If CheneyCo has to spend more money securing and rebuilding it's infrastructure than they can recoup in oil sales, they'll eventually (perhaps after a decade or so) give up and leave.

This morning, this article was at the top of yahoo news, proving I'm nowhere near the first to realize this. Unfortunately, things are a little different this time around in that, while Cheney's companies get the profits from the oil, it's us, the average tax payer, who foots the bill for construction, reconstruction, and security.

It still might work, if the cost is high enough. I guess we'll see, since it seems that that's exactly what the Iraqi Resistance are planning.
