Geeks Without Borders at OryCon - in Portland!

Geeks Without Borders is having a fund/awareness-raising event in Portland this coming weekend (November 14th - 16th), at OryCon, a Science Fiction Convention at the Columbia River Doubletree hotel.

We'll have a table all day Friday, Saturday, and half of Sunday, with literature, a donation jar, and T-shirts, and a room Party Saturday night. (the 15th).

If you're in Portland, or can be, we'd love to see you!

No convention membership is required to come to the room party.

Also, if you're interested in helping out, we can use extra help with the room party, including people to help set up, and if someone could take the bar or the front door (check ID's on the way in of people who want to drink, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated, so the rest of us can wander around the party and shake people down for donations and stuff :-)

Oh, yeah, also, if you wanna bring some finger-food (munchies for the party), or a bottle of liquor to donate to the bar, that would be cool, too!

Even if you can't help out, and can't bring anything but yourself, we'd love to see you! Especially all my friends in Portland who I never get to see since I'm too busy down here.

You know Pat, that's funny. I was just about to e-mail you and ask what I could do to help. I'm always willing to help the cause. I'll bring a bottle, and buy a T-shirt. Make sure you have a XXL handy.

BTW - Have use for a 15" monitor? If I'm riding with the posse in my friend's suburban, I'll probably have room to bring an extra I recently picked up.

And yes, we can use the monitor. Thanks! (15" is my favorite - easiest to transport.)

The theme for the party is "GWoB Blue" - so, generally, blue stuff - we're gonna be dressed in blue, have blue liquor and blue food and blue lights and... well, you get the idea. (Not that anything's a requirement or anything, but thought you'd like to know :)

Black is perfect. A geek can't have too many black t-shirts.

I'll have the monitor for you Sunday morning. This way, I'll be using it as an excuse to bring the MP3 box down instead of a boom-box for my room.

I've also been informed that my air-brush makeup artist will be in attendance. I don't know if he's bringing his air-brush, but if he does, I'll do my Andorian for the party. Damn, I'd better be carefull, or I'll start a tradition. If not, then I'll wear my kilt, and smear some blue stuff on my face and be a woad warrior.

But I ain't bringing no blue booze. I'll bring some vodka or rum. You can bring the curacao to make it blue.

I won't know the room number until Thursday night, but I'll email it to you then. (And I'll probably post it here as well). In the unlikely event I can't get to the internet, you can also call me (and this goes for anyone else too!) on my mobile phone: 541-517-6371. If that doesn't work, just wander around the hotel until you see our flyers. We'll be somewhere in the interstate wing...

3. What time Sunday? Actually, Tuesday would probably be better, as I expect I'll be pretty warn out on Sunday. I can catch a train up to Portland, and come back the next day. Very cool, thanks! I've been looking forward to seeing this since you first mentioned it!

What hours do you need someone on Sunday. I'll need to take the bus up, but otherwise I should be able to watch all day.

The table will have to be manned from 8am - 1pm on Sunday. That's 8am, after the room party, so don't expect us to be too terribly coherent :-)
But any time during that time you wanna come by and hang out is good, so it's up to you. We could probably also use help carting all our stuff out at 1 :-)
