I remember, when I was in first or second grade, on at least a couple of different occasions, we were presented with a list of statements. We were supposed to go through the list and check whether each one was a statement of opinion, or a statement of fact. The idea, of course, being to learn to distinguish between the two.

Listening to political rhetoric recently, I get the impression that schools no longer teach this particular skill.
