I really need some help.

I've spoken to some of you in person about this, and some of you know part of this story already.

But here's the whole thing:
Back in July, I knew I had some major expenses coming up, and wanted some extra money for them. I also have a spare room in my apartment that I rarely use.

So, I decided to get a roommate.

A woman named Lainey answered my ad, and agreed to move in and pay me $450 a month for her half of the rent and utilities. She didn't have the money right away, but assured me she'd have it within a week. I said OK, what the heck, I don't really need the money until November, so whatever.

Shortly after moving in, she told me she'd lost her job and wouldn't be able to pay me on time.

For the next few months, she had excuse after excuse every week why she couldn't pay. She gave me some cash from time to time – a total of $310 over four months. During that time, she has lived her, eaten my food, and the one time I saw her looking for work was when a waitress at a diner basically offered her a job and gave her an application, which she wrote all cutesy on the outside of, “Hey! I'm the awesome Lainey, you want me to work here!” and a phone number, and didn't fill out the application. She did not take my suggestion well that perhaps telling them what a joke you thought the job was was the best way of getting one. As far as I know, this was the closest she came to looking for a job during the five months she's now been living here.

Finally, in October, I told her I really needed some money soon, as my trip that was the whole reason I got a roommate in the first place was coming up.

She responded by sending a rather nasty email all about what a horrible person I was to live with, selfish, unconcerned with her problems, “a big baby”, etc. I responded by saying fine, don't pay me any rent, and you won't have to live with me any more, and gave her five weeks, during which I wouldn't ask for any rent, to find a new place and move out.

A couple of weeks after that, she emptied her storage unit in Washington, and moved everything into the apartment (which is now far more cluttered than I like, but whatever). I told her then that she still had to move out, despite having all her stuff being here.

She's still here. Tonight, I gave her an extra week to move out, and told her I had a new renter, one who would be paying rent, and actually on the lease and everything, who would be moving in on Saturday the 7th. I also offered to pay for a storage unit for her stuff if she couldn't move it with her.

She responded by saying “Well, I hope he enjoys sleeping on the couch, because I'm not giving up my room.” My response of “Well, you're kinda gonna have to,” was met with her screaming “No I'm not!” and running to her room and slamming the door. (Oh, and also more excuses for not having money, including a claim to have been paying her daughter's rent for her for the last three months. I asked her if she was paying her daughter's rent, why doesn't she move in with her. That did not go over well.)

Anyway, so here's where I need help. I'm getting near the end of my rope here, and am unwilling to pay all this woman's expenses for her for the rest of her life, while she lives here, eats my food and basically makes my life miserable. I am still planning on moving her stuff into a storage unit and, yes, paying for it myself for a few months. (It's worth $60 to me to make sure I don't have to deal with her any more.) I need help moving it. I also may need help encouraging her to leave if she doesn't want to. I can't physically throw her out of the apartment by myself. I'm hoping if there are several people here, I won't have to. A large show of support should be enough, I hope. I can't live like this. I am shaking as I write this. This won't be fun, and it won't be easy, but it needs to be done, and I really, really need your help.

So, can anyone come over here Saturday morning the seventh to help? Some people are coming from Eugene, so carpools can be arranged. Even if you can't help move, just extra bodies present will be helpful. Or, possibly, as witnesses. I don't know if she'll go peacefully. With several people here, I assume so. But if she flat out refuses, or freaks out, the police may become involved. I really don't know.

So, if there's any possible way you can help out, I'd really, really, really appreciate it. Please.
