Speaking of cat hair...
Jul. 6th, 2005 09:26 pmCat hair, as those familiar with thermodynamics, cats, or hair already know, is not a very good conductor of heat.
I just finished cleaning out my CPU heat sink - first time since I put it in about four years ago. The CPU kept over-heating (going up to as high as 59 degrees Celcius before I could respond to my poor computer's frantic beeping and shut it down). So, today, I opened it up and started poking around to see if I could figure out why.
Yep, it's the cats again.
OK, so it's a mixture of cat hair blowing around and getting into the case, and four years and three states worth of dust buildup. But, I cleaned it out and now it's running at a nice comfortable 40 degrees. And has been for over an hour.
Yay.
