News from the Cambrian

plutherusCheck this thing out. These things were real. They actually existed and swam around in our oceans. Generations of them came and went for far, far longer than the entire history of the human race.
It's called an anomalocaris. You can read all about them in Wikipedia. At a meter long, it was about the largest predators in the Cambrian. (If I recall correctly, this was about 400 million years before the first dinosaurs appeared, so we're talking a while back.)
I like this drawing of it, just because it looks like something Dave Trampier would have drawn for the first Monster Manual:
