Hypocrisy

So Rumsfield is angered that the Iraqi news has shown footage of prisoners of war, and warns them that they better obey the Geneva convention.

I hope they do too, frankly. I sincerely hope that the captured US servicemen are treated well, and that treatment of their wounds isn't withheld while they are being questioned, and that they are not locked in outdoor cages exposed to the elements, or blindfolded for up to 8 hours at a time, or forced to kneel on concrete floors with their hands tied tightly behind them for hours at a time, and I hope that half a dozen of them don't die during interrogation (regardless of whether or not those deaths are ruled "suicide" by the Iraqis).

In other words, yeah, I hope the Iraqis are more humane than we are.

But then, I have reason to hope. Unlike Bush, Hussein understands the value of PR, rather than mere might, and he's already declared the captured US servicemen to be Prisoners of War, a label the Bush regime has steadfastly refused to use for the prisoners we took in Afghanistan.

Geneva Convention

I think that the US invoking the Geneva Convention is ridiculous since they have never signed, and continue to refuse to sign the document. They do think it is a good idea, however, and it does appear that the captured Iraqi soldiers are being treated well... hell, they certainly appear better treated than ours.

Here is my mantra presently, since there is no going back: do it fats. Finish it as quickly as possible without taking innocent lives. Bring the boys and girls back home.
