Weather is much cooler today, and foggy again.

I love the fog over San Francisco. I like fog in general. It's the only good thing about Stockton: Every fall, we'd get fog rolling in so thick you couldn't see across the street. I loved to go out walking along the Caleveras on those days. Can barely see the river, listening to distant sounds of sirens and cars crashing into each other. Great place, then. Of course, all the rest of the times Stockton sucks ass, but there are a couple of cool things about even it.

No bippy-tarts out today. Yesterday, when I went down tot he corner store to buy milk, they were out in force. It was like there was some kind of dumb shallow blonde convention or something. Like, ohmygod, I cannot tell you how many times I heard the phrase "like, ohmygod". I dunno, maybe the hot weather brings them out or something. Anyway, about the milk: the first carton I bought, (after the annoying girls in line ahead of me gave up on trying to convince the store owner to sell them a lighter cuz they were under 18) turned out was a week past its expiration date. The cashier actually pointed this out to me, and went and got another more recent carton out of the refrigerator. Then he put the old one back in. Guess someone else'll buy it. I'm glad he likes me. Yuck.

After running the errands today, I stopped by the Discovery Channel store at the Embarcadero Center and looked at telescopes for a bit. I've been meaning to buy a new one for a while now, and just wanted to get an idea about what I can get for my budget. As it turns out, quite a bit. Not that I'm going to buy one there. I'm gonna wait til I get to Eugene and probably mail-order one. But I'm looking at a 140mm Newtonian refractor with an equatorial mount, motor and nav software. I'm going to try to find one that'll interface with Starry Night, which is among the coolest software ever developed. But if I can't find one, I can learn to be content with the 14,000 objects listed in the built-in Navstar, I guess. In what I can only take as a buy-a-new-telescope omen, among my junk mail was an Orion telescope catalog. Some beautiful stuff in there. I don't remember ever ordering it, but there it is. Wish I had $1200 to spend, but after wiping the drool off the pages, I found some very nice little toys closer to my budget. Didn't pick up a telescope while there, of course, but I did come across this in the discount bin, and knew I had to give it a good home.

And now, for dinner and DVD.
