I love mass transit. San Francisco's got about the best systems I've seen since leaving Portland. There are busses that run throughout the city every few minutes. One stops right in front of my apartment (literally right in front: people usually stand under my awning while waiting for it) and I've never had to wait more than about five minutes for it. Also, all the major bus stops have maps of the whole system at them (which are handy even when you're just walking around trying to figure out where you are.)

And if I don't want to take a bus, this place is crawling with taxis. You can walk to any corner and wait less than two minutes before an available one comes by. I gotta be careful of that much convenience, though, cuz the price can really add up fast...

My daily commute consists of a half-hour walk to the cable car line, then 15 minutes on the cable car. The cable car stops about 10' from the entrance to the BART station, which takes me, in 45 minutes, to the Pleasant Hill station, which is across the street from the Vodafone building, where I work.
And since the whole thing is a reverse commute, it's never crowded. Generally, I tend to read, or just watch the city go by, on the cable car, and pull out the laptop and write on the bus. They're talking about wiring the system, too, so I can use my work's VPN to read my email or surf the net on the way. Very nice...
