And now for something...
Dec. 28th, 2003 10:07 pmOK, I was going to write about Christmas. 'twas great to see
31seel and the boys, and
goreangel and D. See their blogs if you wanna know details...
(Oh, yeah, and I got two great clocks and can't wait for the clouds to go away for a few minutes so I can go play with my new telescope.
But rather than go into details right now, I wanna talk about one of the most simultaneously hilarious and terrifying web sites I've seen:
Left Behind Letters
Letters from Christians that somehow are supposed to be found by those who are Left Behind after the "rapture", which is surely coming any day now.
Hilarious from their reports, trying to explain to their poor old non-christian friends who have been left behind in the new satanic world. I especially love the gleeful descriptions of the world in the wake of the rapture:
And, of course, all the warnings: "DON'T TAKE THE MARK! DON'T TAKE THE MARK!" " If you take the Mark of the Beast, you will be damned forever. " Aaaahhhh!!!
And helpful advice: "The TV news will be taken over by atheists and may not tell the complete truth about what's happened" "Get a bible as quickly as you can, and pray longer and harder than you ever have before."
And more personal notes: "I hope you believe me now, because this is your last chance" "I keep the cat food under the kitchen counter. Please remember to keep water in the bowl, too."
The titles themselves are pretty damn funny, from the mundane "What happened." and the numerous "a letter from [name]", there's also "To Those Who Are Deeply Confused" and "Dear Husband and family" (I especially like the ones who assume their spouses are gonna be among those not good enough christians to get called up in the first batch :-)
The terrifying part, of course, comes from the idea that there are so many people who actually think like this...

Phoenix is probably bedlam at this point--plane crashes at or around Sky Harbor International Airport have probably plunged a lot of the city into flames. Semi-trucks loaded with Haz-Mat have wrecked and the tanks have ruptured and their cargoes ignited. Also , I bet a lot of fires started by unattended industrial and kitchen equipment have undoubtedly sparked quite a few Towering Infernos.
