Back from Utah

I just got back from the Great Basin Archaeological Conference. Turned out to be enjoyable, actually :).

Mostly, I stayed in the vendor room, helping sell books for the Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Got to talk to several archaeologists, and hear some great stories.

Mostly, let Dr. Jenkins, Chantel, and the other Oregon MNCH people get away from the table so they could talk to the people they needed to and see the papers they were interested in, so that's all good.

So, this week, I contributed to the scientific knowledge of mankind. And learned how to use a credit card machine. :)

Widad

In sadder news, my cat Widad died this morning.

She's been living with me, traveling around the country, for 18 years now.

I've kind of suspected she might be near ready for a couple of weeks now. She didn't seem to be in much pain, and was climbing and jumping up onto my desk up until the last day of her life. Apparently, last night, she just laid down in her favorite spot under my bed and went to sleep and never woke up.

I am sad. But, she really did have a good life. 18 years is a good run for a housecat. She was better traveled than most people I've met, and loved up until the end.

She will be missed.
