Speaking of old books...
Feb. 1st, 2020 01:13 pmTwo of the books that had a major impact on my life:
Barry, the Bravest Saint Bernard: My favorite book when I very young. I never owned it, but I probably checked it out of the school library a dozen times in first through third grade. I obsessed about it then, but until it came up today, I'd forgotten all about it.
Too Near The Sun: A piece of anti-communist propaganda that was so over the top shallow and trite it made me realize just how much cold-war rhetoric was focused on nonsense and fantasy fears. I was around 12. I've referenced it many times since then of the kind of nonsense they used to feed to children and why we can't have health care now.
Today I learned that both of these books were written by the same person.
