Just got back from the dentist.

He couldn't find anything wrong.

Might be a sinus infection. Is that even remotely possible? A sinus infection causing intense pain whenever cold liquid passes over the top left side of your mouth, and a general dull ache all the rest of the time? Can a sinus infection cause pain right about at the gum line every time you accidently bite down on something with that side of the mouth?

I hate not being able to trust a medical care provider, but I have to wonder if he has any clue at all. His manner was abrupt, short, and never gave the impression that he gave a damn about finding the actual cause or was doing anything more than guessing. He prescribed antibiotics only after the second time I asked him if he had any suggestions at all as to what I should do next. (I was expecting, perhaps, that he would refer me to some other kind of doctor who might have a chance of figuring out what the fuck's up).

What, did he think I was faking it? That I have nothing better than to waste his time with fake ailments because, like most people, I love going to the dentist so much?

"Could it be related to the malaria in any way, then?"
"No."

No? Just no? Not, "no, because if it was then..." or "no, malaria wouldn't affect your sinuses" or anything like that.

Dammit.

I guess I'll take the antibiotics and see what happens.

And I'll ask my doctor if she's got any idea, since I'm gonna go see her in a couple of hours too for the followup on my malaria treatment, which supposedly I'm all over now.

I hate my life right now.

Sometimes tension in your jaw can feel like a toothache. Do you have a chiropractor or some sort of more holistic doctor? They might be able to figure it out better.

A sinus infection could cause all sorts of oral problems... even tooth pain.

I went to Russel st. clinic once with a horrible pain radiating from the region of my upper teeth. I thought it was wsdom teeth, but the dentist's x-rays revealed that I don't HAVE any upper wisdom teeth. It was a sinus infection. It's certainly possible, though that dentist still seems like a schmuck.

A couple of my teeth are really painful when any kind of liquid goes over them, but OK at other times. When I queried my dentist, he said it was due to my gums retreating, which they tend to do when you get a bit older. When we talked about it a bit, specifically in my case he felt it was also down to the way I had been brushing my teeth. So I am having to try and train myself and brush them differently, and hope that it fixes the problem.

Mind you, I was really glad that nothing he said involved the words root and canal.

sinus infection is definietly a possibility. You are in seattle right? (or in portland?) either way, seattle and portland areas are 2 of the best places to find excellent Naturopathic medical care. I suggest finding an ND in your area naturopathic.org has a 'find and ND' function. if you ARE in seattle, by law insurance companies have to cover some form of naturopathic med.
