Coolest Launch video EVER!
Jul. 10th, 2006 10:17 pmI just found these. NASA has put extra video cameras on the shuttle, and the external tanks, to check for damage.
They also have the side effect of providing the most incredibly cool launch videos.
Looking up, underneath the shuttle. Beautiful view of the sky, turning from blue to black, then the shuttle as it departs after dropping the solid booster, then the booster's plummet back down, as it spirals the view between earth and space, then splashes into the ocean:

Looking down during launch, see Earth dwindle below you as you rise up into the sky. Very brief view of the shuttle as it departs the booster, then the drop back to Earth, again spiraling down, and splashing into the ocean, though the camera stays above water this time:
