Yesterday's "debate" was held in an evangelical mega-church, run by a fundamentalist televangelist, using questions culled from those submitted by this preacher's followers. Most of the questions were based on current American Fundamentalist wedge issues. Mostly, aimed at determining how much the candidates fell in line with the agenda preached by the like of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, and popular televangelist Rick Warren Himself.

There are about 300,000,000 people in the United States.
Roughly 80% of these identify themselves as Christians.

That leaves 20%, or 60,000,000 who don't.

60 million people who's concerns are unwanted and unaddressed in yesterday's debates, which opened with a statement that the hosts did not believe in separation of Church and State.

"It's as if millions of voices cried out at once and were suddenly silenced."

So the first salvo was in the run-up to the presidential election was fired and both candidates stood forth boldly and declared that they were more interested in the Evangelical vote than any other.

Rick Warren. From Preacher to Kingmaker, and all about his own strange brand of Christianity, which of course doesn't include those heretical groups like the Catholics, or so-called "liberal" Christians (defined, apparently, by their lack of hatred for gay people.) And, obviously, atheists need not apply. If they have anything to say, they can wait til the next debates along with the Jews, the Hindus, the Muslims, the Pagans, and everybody else.

More to follow once I can find an actual transcript of the proceedings from somewhere.
