Sad day in the neighborhood
Feb. 27th, 2003 10:28 amMr. Rogers died today.
Like everybody else for the last 30 years or so, I used to watch him every day on TV. I may have seen his first season, I guess it would have been around the time I started watching. I must have sat on the floor in my living room in the house in Portland, watching on our old black and white TV. I don't remember that. I just remember him telling me that he likes me just the way I am. An important message to a lot of us. And I remember Mr. Trolley and King Friday the 13th.
I hadn't thought about him for years, of course, other than last month when my computer decided to turn on his show early one morning. Which was pretty cool, now I'm really glad I got that one last chance to see him before he left, as it were.
Anyway, farewell Mr. Rogers. You left the neighborhood more beautiful than you found it, while you were passing through. May we all do as much.
