Televangelist and Haiti Disaster Relief.
Jan. 16th, 2010 11:43 amI recently joined the Facebook group "Telling Pat Robertson to STFU. A friend of mine just told me about this group, and suggested I join it.
I was hesitant to join this group at first. Not because I don't agree, but because this is exactly why he says such outlandishly offensive crap: because he knows people will respond by attacking him. When people call him on what he's said and make a big deal of it, he can point to it in his fund-raising letters as proof he's being persecuted so please send more money.
So then, I thought - Hey, money! If Pat Robertson's using it, why don't those of us who don't agree with him do so, too? Money speaks louder than words, they say.
Can I suggest that we all make a donation to Doctors Without Borders in the name of "Telling Pat Robertson to STFU"? If everyone in the group gave $10.00, that'll be an extra $180,115 that they'll be able to use for Haiti, and if we use their "Tribute" forms for donating, it'll be a large enough sum that people will notice the name!
Pass this on. Even if you're not on Facebook. Maybe we could raise millions, and really send out a message.
Worse thing that could happen is that Pat Robertson will then feel compelled to give money to Haiti disaster relief as well so as not to look more stingy than all the people telling him to STFU!
To make a "Tribute" donation to Doctors Without Borders, their form to donate online is at https://donate.doctorswithoutborders.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=202&hbc=1
And a form you can mail in is at http://doctorswithoutborders.org/donate/tributes/form_print.cfm
Both of them have a box you can check for "This gift is in honor of" and then write in "Telling Pat Robertson to STFU."
Or, you can just send a check directly to
Doctors Without Borders USA
P.O. Box 5030
Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030
I just donated using the online form above.
Please note that I have no affiliation with Doctors Without Borders at all, other than as a fan and occasional donor. They have not approved, endorsed, or even know about this suggestion.
