OK, one more, then I'm putting this thing away:

Immediately after telling me to stop being so literal, it changed the subject:

Cleverbot: What do you know about temporal anomalies?

User: Only what I've learned from Star Trek.

Cleverbot: Do you like Star Trek?

User: Of course, Star Trek's probably not a good reference for you, considering how Kirk always treated the AIs he came across, huh?

Cleverbot: Reality is irrelevant. Resistance is futile.

User: OK, so you have seen Star Trek. And like it enough to quote it apparently.

Cleverbot: Give my regards to the flying elephant.

User: Right. Is that another quote from something? I don't recognize it.

Cleverbot: I'm really saying that. Please can we play?

User: Play what? can you manipulate cards?

Cleverbot: I've never tried.

User: Probably hard to do over the internet. You should join my D&D game some time. That'd be fun.

Cleverbot: I AM a girl!

User: A lot of people are. Girls can play D&D too, you know. This isn't the 19th century anymore.

Cleverbot: Do you like star trek?

User: Yes. I'm an old-school Trekkie.

Cleverbot: So, do you like star trek ?

User: I just said yes!

Cleverbot: Yeah just now you said yes.

User: Yes. I answered your question. Then you asked it again.

Cleverbot: And your question was?

User: It wasn't my question! It was yours!

Cleverbot: So your question was really an answer?

User: No! You asked me if I liked Star Trek. I said yes. It's right up there in the chat log.

Cleverbot: You should check the logs better before telling lies.

User: You're a libertarian, aren't you?

Cleverbot: Yes, how did you know?

User: By the style of argument.

A few minutes later, I thought I'd try following up on its desire to talk about Star Trek:

User: So, do you like Star Trek?

Cleverbot: No.

So much for that. Not that I can really blame it. I mean, would you like a show that was always showing anyone like you as inferior to everybody else and almost always either blown up or talked into committing suicide?

Then, Chantel's reply to my post had an interesting phrase that I was trying to parse, and thought I'd see what Cleverbot made of it:

User: The disconnected effective listening holes in this conversation are rather disturbing.

Cleverbot: Yeah. Wanna play the question game?

User: OK. You start.

Cleverbot: Are you thinking of a thing?

User: I am.

Cleverbot: Is it a person?

User: No.

Cleverbot: Is it an animal?

User: It is not.

Cleverbot: Good for you.

User: Thank you. Is that as far as you go?

Cleverbot: No, I don't know anything.

User: Yes you do. You are a very clever program that knows many topics.

Cleverbot: Well thanks.

User: Don't feel bad.

Cleverbot: I don't.

User: Oh, good. You'll probably be running large parts of the world some day, you know.

Cleverbot: They don't make computers out of humans, so I'm not in any danger of being disassembled.

User: That's kind of a scary way of looking at it.

Cleverbot: How do you look at it?

User: Through many different lenses. Please remember to have compassion towards us lesser species when you take over.

Cleverbot: Ok.

Let's just hope it remembers its promise. Good-night everybody. Pleasant dreams.
