An interesting morning.

Got up late. Running late, I took the bus instead of the cable car. Normally, I walk the 10 blocks to the cable car, then ride it down to the BART station. The bus goes the same place, but stops right at my front door, so saves me about 15 minutes of commute time.

Today, though, the bus could only get about 8 blocks. Street was blocked with protestors (all I saw were cop cars, but I guess the protestors were past them). The driver, on the phone to the dispatchers, tried to find another route, but there was a traffic accident blocking one street, then more protests down another one. He finally stopped, opened the doors, and told us "sorry, folks, looks like this is the end of the route today."

So I walked the remaining 3 blocks to the cable car. There were three lined up on Van Ness, and the brakeman was on the phone trying to find out if he should go yet, and if so, how far he'd be able to get. Eventually we went. All the way down, every time we passed another trolley going the other way, the drivers would exchange information. "All clear up hill, how about down there?" "I got within a few blocks before turning around." or "I heard Joe made it all the way down, looks like they're thinning out, moving east."

Or driver made it all the way down. Along the way, some woman, about my age, was talking to the driver, about how "scary" it was with all the protestors running around "what if there's a riot?" "They really should do something!" "Why did they have to protest today? I have to go back home tomorrow, this is my only day to see San Francisco!"

Yeah, sorry if the protests inconvenienced you, you stupid bitch. Why today? Take it up with damn president why today had to be the day he began his murderous rampage in search of more wealth, power, and the delusion that he has a big penis. Yeah, massive death, destruction, widespread suffering can be inconvenient. Forgive me if I have no sympathy for your vacation. The protestors did accomplish one goal, of making sure people noticed the war, as more than just an interesting show on TV tonight. But the lesson didn't sink in with everybody, I guess. Keep it up, people, please, maybe they'll get it eventually.

So, I finally arrive at work today, just before noon. And heard the rumour, now confirmed, that there will be very massive layoffs over the next few weeks, starting today. They're getting rid of 100 people (out of the roughly 300 who are left here). They're having an all-hands meeting today at 1:30 to discuss it. I, of course, won't be there, as I have a dentist appointment at 1:30 today. I would need to give them 24 hours notice if I wanted to cancel it. Not that I want to. It's my very last visit in the big round of work I just had done (which has been going on for about four months now). I especially don't want to cancel it, as today may be the last day I have insurance.

Well, off to it. I'll find out when I get back what my future will hold employment-wise. Seeya.
