I will not be giving any more money to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Their contributions to Planned Parenthood helped fund 170,000 mammograms last year. That is a good thing. Poor women need access to medical help, including prevention measures, and Planned Parenthood is a leader among the places they can get it.

But this year, for the elections, the Republican party has declared war on Planned Parenthood.

Nancy G. Brinkers of the Susan G. Komen foundation has decided to join them and, at the behest of Rep. Cliff Stearns, has completely withdrawn all funds from Planned Parenthood.

She has issued a video claiming that this political decision was not actually a political decision and that it is the people who are criticizing the move. She is lying.

In solidarity, and because I believe that poor people also deserve health care, I just made a donation to Planned Parenthood directly, and invite you to do so as well:

Also, there are many organizations dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Many spend their money more efficiently, and less politically, than the Komen foundation.

For example, the American Institute of Philanthropy gave Komen only a "B+", but awarded:

The Breast Cancer Fund - A+
Cancer Care - A
Cancer Research Institute - A
National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund - A

Your money will be better spent by almost any cancer charity other than Komen.
