Today was for pretty much nothing at all. Did a bit of paperwork, cleaned some, and spent the rest of the day with various entertainments.

First, I saw the Avengers movie. It was awesome! Everything in it was just about perfect. They did a great job with all the characters, and their interaction. I was afraid it would be all about Iron Man, or that a couple of the characters would be the obvious stars and all the rest basically cameos. Nope, it was a true ensemble. Everyone got some time to shine, and interact with all the rest at various points. Even Col. Fury, Hawkeye, and the Black Widow, who didn't get movies of their own.

Those characters who fought against each other had plausible reasons for doing so - other than mistaken identity or mind control.

Anyway, I don't want to spoil it, so just go see it, if you're into that kind of thing.

I was never a big Avengers fan in comic book form, nor of any of the characters therein, so I can't tell you how close to canon they kept it. But I did like Thor and Dr. Banner much better in this movie than I did in their own.

The humour was perfectly placed, too. I honestly can't think of anything I'd do to improve the movie. I look forward to the sequel.

Then, later, I finally finished Mass Effect 3.

This was an great series. A rich, detailed, galaxy to play in. Deep characterization. A vast plotline that varies with your choices. I can understand why some are complaining about the ending, but...

But, really, the final six minutes being somewhat lame doesn't ruin several hundred hours of immersive gameplay over three games. I would handled it differently. I would have done a short clip of every single character you had on the ship, showing how all the decisions you made so far, including the final one, affected them, and possibly their world. Maybe it could all be narrated by one of the reports you made friends or enemies with over the games.

Show Wrex reclining on his throne. Tali putting her encounter suit in the closet of her lakeside home. Miranda's sister lighting a candle to her memory. Javik playfully trying to get away from Liara as she asks him "one more thing!" Garrick back home helping the Turians rebuild. Scavengers picking through the wreckage of the entire Geth armada. Jack in the new danger room training her students to fight to protect a world that hates and fears them...

Anyway, you get the idea.

This would have ended up being probably 10-20 minutes of cutscenes at the end, but fuck it, after over two hundred hours playing these games over five years, I think most people could have handled 20 minutes of basking in Commander Shepard's legacy.

And, yes, it would have cost a bit more money. But, really, the games have made them more than enough money to pay for it.

But it wasn't to be. Apparently, the six-minute ending cutscenes are identical no matter what you do. Which fact didn't bother me, as I only finished the game once.

It's still rather stupid to say, therefore, that none of the choices you make throughout the game matter. Your choices affect the entire game. Who you run into in the third game, and even who you have as crew on your ship can depend on who you pissed off, saved, killed, or let die in any of the first two games.

There's three chances to lose Wrex, one in each game. In my game, I saved him all three times, so he grew to become king of the Krogan, uniting the clans (which I also helped in in the second game), and led his people to Earth when you needed him to.

I let Kaidan die in the first game, so I missed the entire plot line involving him in the third.

Even the reporter I punched in the mouth (I forget why) in the first game had repercussions in the second.

Just because they didn't wait til the very end to pay off most of your choices doesn't mean that they don't matter.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Game: Awesome. Ending: Could be better, but didn't detract from an awesome game. I would play it again.

If I did, though, I'd try to save Mordin.
