And, I'm off to my family reunion for the weekend. So, no more updates until Monday. Should have a couple then, though.
A couple of interesting things (well, I found them interesting anyway):
I've heard Joss Whedon comment a few times how much he hates writing "action" sequences. Based on that alone, I was kind of dreading this section. I just finished writing a big two-page fight scene. One character, used to violence, trying to kill another who is just discovering an unsuspected aptitude for brutality himself. The only weapon sent spinning under a table early on. I loved it. It was so much fun to write.
Also, I found myself getting caught up in it, trying to convey the speed of it by writing faster. Yeah, I'll probably have to re-write that whole thing cuz that probably won't work.
I actually winced a couple of times, especially when Gordon's arm was broken.
The "hysterical giggle" was actually my own, as I got caught up in the action that I was making up. And then I felt guilty about hurting these people. Weird to feel bad about pretending someone who doesn't exist is hurting someone else who doesn't exist.
Also, I was googling one of my minor character's names, to make sure I'm not accidentally using the name of some famous person or something. I do that sometimes. I choose a first name, then think up a last name that seems to fit it well. Occasionally, the reason it seems to fit well is because I've heard them together sometimes. Anyway, I had just killed this character, and googled his name to see if I'd have to change it. The first picture that came up was an elderly man surrounded by other people, seated in front of a cake that said "95" on it. He looked happy. I was sad for a moment, thinking that could have been how Sam ended up if I hadn't killed him. I'm going to have to figure out a way of putting that into the story.
