Thursday, we spent the afternoon building a raft for roommate M's annual tradition of floating down the Willamette river on the 4th of July. Friday, July 4th, we tested the design by loading up a bunch of us and floating down the river. [livejournal.com profile] reynard52 has the specs and details, but here's

The raft, being assembled on shore before putting it into the water:

And, on the water, proving it really does float. We lost two of the inner tubes assembling it, and I was worried about the others, but it actually made it all the way down, include through some decent rapids without falling apart at all (well, except for a little bit of a problem with one corner of the canopy. That arc creates a lot of stress on the pvc connectors, and one of them kept trying to disengage itself from the support beam into which it was held by two screws. Solved by tying it down with more rope, after hammering the screw back into place with a rock.)

OK, gotta run now, more later.
