reynard52 and M headed up to Albany to get M's mother's car whose transmission went out there (after first stopping by Uhaul to rent a trailer and buy a ball hitch (which we've been wanting for a while. Yay! we can tow things now! :) I spent the day researching copiers to send to Africa, and hitting Canon, HP, Xerox, etc. up for donations. None of them do direct donations to non-profits. Most go through Gifts in Kind, and others, like HP, only donate to groups they approach, so they don't take unsolicited donation requests at all (unless you're a student who wants to buy one at cost. If you are, contact HP for some great printer deals!)
So now the registration with Gifts in Kind gets pushed up the ladder of priorities. And tomorrow I hit up all the retailers. I think the best one for our needs is the HP OfficeJet 7130. There are higher-end copiers out there, but this one uses ink cartridges (as opposed to laser toner cartridges - easier to get replacements, less power consumption, and easier to maintain or fix should something go wrong), plus it has color capability. It does 22ppm in black, which is about the fastest you can get with an inkjet (and laser printers aren't much faster - around 25ppm usually, though some do go up to 50, or even higher for the really expensive ones). Plus, we can probably afford shipping to Gambia on this one.
