I just finished watching the third episode of The Orville.
It's... it's good. It's better than I was expecting. AFter the first two episodes, I thought it was OK, and worth keeping an eye on. I was afraid it was going to be just some clumsy parody, but it's more than that. It's parody, for sure, but seems to be becoming it's own thing.

This episode, is something else. This is original Star Trek. This is the kind of thing that made me love the show to begin with. No space battles (though those are always fun) no monsters (though those can be good, too), but an interesting ethical dilemma, a science fiction take on a modern problem and an examination of the issue from multiple sides with a depth I've grown unaccustomed to in most TV.

The show is evolving. I'm interested in seeing into what.

Now, I enjoyed Discovery (the "real" Star Trek), but it was missing something. It has some great characters and interesting situations and promises some very compelling drama (and exciting space battles) in the coming season. But I don't know how "Star Trek" it's going to be. I'm really interested in seeing some exploration of strange new worlds and seeking out new life and new civilizations. They've got the characters, the actors, the writers, and even the special effects crew to pull it off. It might boldly go there. But it hasn't yet.
