What The Fuck?
May. 14th, 2004 01:32 pmOK, now this is just getting weirder.
Who the hell is Nick Berg?? Was he a U.S. Liaison to Al-Qaeda? Or what?
And who killed him? If he was captured by Al-Qaeda, why was he wearing a U.S. prison uniform in the pictures? That's hardly Al-Qaeda's M-O. If, as the CIA claims, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi killed him and took credit for the killing, why was he wearing a mask in the video? I mean, if he wanted everyone to know that he did it, what's the point of wearing the mask?
But most importantly, just who the hell was Nick Berg? He was involved in Al-Qaeda long before he was supposedly beheaded by them. Even if just peripherally. We know his computer was used to send email by Al-Qaeda. It seems like a pretty major coincidence, no? And why did the U.S. government detain him for weeks in Iraq, then deny ever holding him?
And what was he really doing in Iraq? He was moving about the country pretty freely. It does seem a strange place for someone who had previously been investigated by the FBI due to his link to Al-Qaeda to go to look for work, doesn't it?
I think there are some important questions about this whole thing. The timing, of course, is just too coincidental - a brutal slaying, on videotape, to deflect attention away from the ongoing prison abuse scandal.
