Job searching
Aug. 6th, 2004 03:40 pmWell, I had my first interview today. Didn't go as well as I'd hoped. This one was in Chicago, and I wasn't as prepared as I'd like to be.
Couldn't think of a good answer to "why are you looking for work in the Chicago area?" or "What attracted you to this particular position?" The true answer, of course, is that that is the position, and the area, that the recruiter called me about, so I sent in my resume. I wasn't even sure what the position was, exactly, other than SCM. Found out a lot more about it during the interview, and it looks really good, but I don't think they'll be making an offer unless I'm the only qualified candidate (which is possible, as not too many people are familiar with a wide variety of SCM tools, CMM, and Unix, and have management experience to boot.)
The two people I interviewed with (conference call) did the whole "oh. I see." thing when I told them what salary I was looking for (though for the kind of position they're looking for, it's about average, if not a little on the low end). Also, he seemed very unimpressed with some of the things I told them that should have impressed them, as it's exactly what they're looking for.
We'll see how the later one goes, with the LA group. I think they're the ones I'm more interested in working for anyway...
