Still at work - for the moment
Mar. 20th, 2003 03:33 pmBack from the dentist. Talked to people who were at the meeting. 40% of staff will be let go. Ouch. Most of the cuts will be from other departments, but my department won't be completely immune. I haven't seen M. yet, but I think we both know that a month from now, only one of us will still be employed. Assuming that either of us is. We might both be let go, but odds are at least one of us is out of here soon.
Kinda sucky.
So, there's three possibilities for me:
1. I remain employed here. In which case, nothing changes, life goes on. O-blah-dee, oh-blah-da.
2. I get downsized. In which case, I get a fairly sizeable severance package, and will probably move to Eugene Oregon, live off of that (which I should be able to do for about a year, if I'm careful), and spend my full time running GWoB. This, I think, is my favorite scenario.
3. I get transferred to the UK home office, or the new branch in Germany. In which case, it's good-bye to this godforsaken country, sorry it didn't work out, but I am so out of here. Frankly, this one isn't too bad of a scenario, either.
Hmm, it looks like actually, things remaining as they are would be my number 3 choice. Now that I put it like that, I'm not really that scared of the future any more suddenly.
Of course, all this assumes that I don't get shot by SFPD coming out of the BART this evening on my way home because he mistakes me for an out-of-town protestor.
Or get "disappeared" by Homeland Security who's seen my postings on the internet, or my "where is bin laden" web site and decides I must be a terrorist....
