Cops and protestors

OK, perhaps I should explain my last statement a bit.
Then again, hell, probably anybody reading this knows that San Francisco's full of protestors at the moment. We had 1300 arrests here yesterday. I don't know how many of those people are still in jail. Since I have to work Sunday, my boss gave me the afternoon off today. Woohoo.

On the way home, when I got off BART I found the Embarcadero station filled with long lines of cops and protestors. The protestors were all on the sidewalk, and the cops in the street, lined up in full riot gear (must've been hot for them). There was about 3-4 feet between the cops and the protestors and while I was standing there waiting for the cable car, about a dozen police motorcycles came zooming down the street at high speed, between them. The cops in the street jeered at the protestors "better stay on the sidewalk". I'm not sure what the cops were trying to accomplish with this, but nothing happened. This happened twice while I was there. After about ten minutes, a line of police vans arrived, and drove down the same street (this is on Market for those who know the city), followed by a large bus with barred windows, which drove in among the protestors, did a three-point U-turn, then left.

After 20 minutes, the cable car still hadn't shown up, so I gave up and caught the bus. I'm gonna head back through there now on my way to the East Bay, so I'll try to get some pictures this time. Not like all the news orgs haven't been plastering pictures all over the place already...
