Did scientists just make a black hole in the lab?

Apparently, there's a good chance that we've created artificial black holes in a lab in New York.

But, says Horatiu Nastase, who did it, it's probably safe.

That's nice to know. The lead scientist on the project is pretty sure they won't accidently suck the planet into an artificial black hole. :)

Actually, all joking aside, this is pretty damn cool, and could give us a great chance to understand how Hawking radiation actually works, and could lead to a huge breakthrough in understanding quantum effects, which could eventually have such useful byproducts as reversing or overcoming gravity in a controlled manner...

Can we have spaceships to escape in before we create black holes? Just asking, I would like to have an escape route in case they do cause the earth to implode.
