Yay, I made it to San Jose!
After a 2500 mile drive, made possible thanks to
reynard52 and
metallumai. Missouri is prettier than I expected. Nebraska is mostly wheat and cows. Utah just sucks to drive across. I'm pretty sure they get federal highway funds, but they're not spending them on their highways. Somebody is embezzling, that's for sure. I was amused that Salt Lake City is full of billboards advertising gambling and hookers, just over the border.
Haven't found an apartment yet. I found one I liked, but the manager was a jerk, so I didn't get it. I think he just didn't like me for some reason. I loved the place, and asked if I could have it right away. He told me that they couldn't rent without reviewing the application first, and without talking to the owner. So, I filled out the application, paid him the application fee, and he told me that the decision would be made Wednesday at the earliest. Then today, he called me, left a message (on my friend's machine - he refuses to call my cell phone because it's long distance). He was asking for the phone numbers of previous landlords, so I looked them up, called him back and was told that he'd already rented it. To someone who had walked in today and was willing to rent it on the spot. Umm... you mean, like I was? So, you lied to me when you told me that the manager had to review the application first? No, I didn't lie. But, you said that there was no way to rent the apartment without at least a three day wait because you had to meet with the owner first. "That's neither here nor there." Fucking asshole. Why did you make me go through all the hoops if you had no intention of renting the apartment to me? I hate people sometimes.
I want my money back for the application fee.
Oh, well, in other news, job is going well (all one day of it so far), and my friend I'm staying with hasn't gotten sick of me yet, so I'm still staying here. Yay!
