On the way in to work, I read an interesting article in the paper this morning, about how more and more people are getting their news from the internet instead of the more traditional outlets such as TV, radio, and newspapers.

The article continued, extolling the virtues of reading news online, such as the greater timeliness, and often times the greater relevance of online news. One of the big advantages, apparently, is that people forward articles they find interesting to each other.

It also discussed media bias and pointed out that, although internet news suffers from not having the same filters that traditional systems have, that's also one of it's strengths. While it is hard to find unbiased articles on the internet, it is also hard to avoid biases that are different from your own, which is a big advantage over newspapers where only a few people are setting editorial policy.

Another point it raised is the great advantage of depth. If any particular person or event in an article interests you, you are only a few clicks away from drilling down into as much depth, as much of the surrounding history, as much of everyone's opinions about the person/event/whathaveyou, as you can possibly want to know. It mentions that some of the better reporters will do some of this research before presenting the story, but even the best of them can't compete with the entire internet.

It also pointed out the new "news" tab on google, extolling how wonderful it is that this much information, from this many sources, can all be indexed this readily.

Now, I knew all this already, but what I found really interesting is this:
I read this article in the newspaper.
