Actually, I don't know why they became evil. I'm not really that familiar with this group's history. Perhaps they were evil to begin with.
They claim to be a pro-Christian, pro-family values organization, but in reality they are neither. They are, instead, merely another pro-corporate, pro-cheap labor, anti-compassion and, above all, anti-government-service-to-the-poor.
Recently, they have chosen to pick on the most helpless group of all - child slaves. And this is why I'm saying that they're not just wrong, but downright evil.
Thanks to their lobbying (oh, yeah, did I mention that this group, which claims to be religious in nature in order to get around the tax laws, is actually primarily a political lobbying group?), Senate bill S. 2925 - “Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Deterrence and
Victims Support Act of 2010” was successfully defeated.
And what were the provisions in this act that they found so horrendous that they had to their tax-free money to try to defeat? Shelters for victims of the child sex trade. This group in the past has come out against women's shelters because they encourage women to leave abusive husbands, which they claim is anti-Christian. Their letter spoke out against using government money to provide shelters and services for child sex slaves freed from their pimps, and insisted that these children be arrested instead.
Shelters, you see, cost taxpayer money. And taxpayer money is something that Should Not Be Spent. Well, not on poor people anyway. The crux of the matter, of course, is that these children are universally poor. Downright destitute, actually. And Concerned Women for America, like many other front groups run by the same group of people, believe that government money should be given only to the rich. Huge government subsidies for oil companies: OK. Victim assistance: Bad.
Let me make this clear, because these so-called "Concerned Women" keep trying to muddle the issue: Child sex slaves are NOT criminals. They are victims of a crime. They are, in the child sex industry, the ONLY victims. The "Johns" to rape them are criminals. The pimps who sell them to be raped are criminals. The parents who all too frequently allow them to be exploited are criminals. And those who block attempts at fighting against this exploitation? Technically not criminals, but very, very evil.

Although they're still desperate to repeal it.
