Well, that was exciting.

plutherusWoke up to fire alarm, and a recorded voice saying to "proceed to the nearest exit."
Another voice in front of the elevators were repeating "Do not use elevator. Proceed to nearest stairway. Do not use elevator. Proceed to nearest stairway."
Downstairs, maintenance guy and a fireman were in the Fire Control room. Maintenance guy was on the phone and the fireman was filling out paperwork, so I felt OK interrupting him to ask what was up (thinking that if there was a fire or something, he'd be fighting it or something.) Maintenance guy told me the incident was resolved and they were just working on trying to figure out how to shut off the system now.
He also told me it was safe to ignore the voice and use the elevator.
But, at least I know that I can walk very quickly down 21 flights of stairs while carrying a cat carrier.
And now to bed. Again.
