Neverwinter Nights
May. 23rd, 2003 08:32 pmThe smartest thing any computer game company ever did was to release their design toolkit, so people could build their own modules. This assures Bioware (the makers of NeverWinter Nights) an endless supply of fan-created adventures, without them having to do much of anything. The game comes with a huge storyline of its own, but once you've finished that, rather than wait for the sequel like most computer adventure games, there are literally hundreds more you can now download and play, many of them surprisingly good.
So I spent the last couple of hours working on my own city adventure. Testing as I go is actually pretty fun itself. Walking around in the city as it's under development, talking to the town guards, getting in bar fights, killing the orcs so I can get the key to the temple of Olidammara (gonna have to remember cut back on their numbers, though, they nearly killed my 15th-level monk, and I'm designing the first adventure for a first-level rogue). Noting all the bugs as I go along (gotta figure out how factions work, I think. The entire city shouldn't suddenly be out to kill you because you robbed one house). And then there's just the walking around figuring out where to put things. "Oh, yeah, this island here would be a perfect spot for the Temple of St. Cuthbert." now, if I could just figure out why my bridge out of the Northgate district absolutely refuses to also be a bridge into Northgate...
But before that, dinner.
