I just send the following letter to the Oregonian and to the Eugene Register-Guard. Think there's any chance it'll get printed?

With all the focus on current administration crimes, sometimes we forget just what all this administration has done.

Remember that, in addition to the famous "16 words" where Bush lied about an IAEA report, claiming it said that Saddam Hussein was six months away from a viable nuclear weapons program, when in reality it said the opposite. He also lied about trailers being used for biological warfare when in reality they were used to haul weather balloons, and had Powell lie to the UN, using a combination of plagiarized, outdated, and discredited documents to make his case.

John Poindexter, convicted liar in the Iran/Contra scandal, is still in charge of Homeland Security.

Cheney is still refusing to disclose documents relating to his role in the Enron scandal, despite court orders that he do so.

There are still an unknown number of American citizens, at least a couple of hundred according to official administration figures, who are being held in federal custody, some for over a year now, without being charged with any crime.

It is still official policy that the CIA is allowed to murder, without trial, American citizens outside the US who they feel may be involved in any way in terrorist organizations. The administration has admitted that this action has been carried out at least once.

It is still official policy that some foreign intelligence agencies are allowed to kill American citizens inside the US without trial if they claim they believe they may be involved with terrorism. Because they are not required to share any records with the American public, it is unknown if this policy has ever been carried out.

The FCC never apologized for threatening to pull the licenses of TV stations who aired a Democrat ad calling for investigations into the current administration.

All this, and people still support the current administration, and their front man George W. Bush. Why?

Don't Look Now, But...

Is that a black helicopter I see flying over your house?

No, it's buzzards circling the house. Good thing GWoB's not political, huh?

Yes, GWoB is not political.

But I am.

Don't worry, I am careful at all times to not use GWoB email, or any GWoB resources, or in any way imply any relationship or endorsement by Geeks Without Borders to any political views I express.

But, I will not allow Ashcroft or his jack-booted thugs to intimidate me into silence. To everyone else: if anyone reading this is worried that your association with me might get you investigated as a terrorist, or fear being labelled as anti-American because you happen to know a guy who refuses to pretend everything is good when it clearly isn't, then I suggest you disassociate yourself with me now.

I do not love Big Brother, and, barring the rat treatment, I will not claim I do.

And I won't allow some cro-mag in dc to intimidate me into choosing who is or is not a friend. Once when you were over I geeked...you probably remember, and I apologize for that. But the conditions were different. We live next to an extremely mental individual that could at any time use something she hears to compromise everything we have worked for. That I have to take steps against. There is a difference between speaking your mind in the front yard and bellowing it loud enough for some close-minded twit several hundred feet away to use it as a tool to stick you with. Local factors that only I knew. Not some broad personal paranoid philosophy. Part of it is common sense. Things would be different if I was single or didn't have a child, except the common sense. We talk, not whisper, about bizarre and controversial stuff out here until the wee hours all the time. Hell, they probably think we're satanists for sure by now with all the ritual rehearsal that has gone on, and I can care less. My opinion on it the volume of such things is, why compromise our freedoms if we don't have to? I write letters, I am affiliated with groups that doubtless are watched... I am just careful. Sorry if I stepped on toes that afternoon. Even though I realize that your post may not be directed directly in my direction ;-) that incident still bugs me. I am proud to know you.

Likewise!
No, I wasn't specifically thinking of that incident either. Nor was my post really directed at [livejournal.com profile] reynard52, it was just in the reply to her post that I mentioned it!

I may have phrased what I said the last time I was out at your place the same as what I said in the post, but only because it's something I have found myself repeating all too frequently in the last couple of years.

Plus, when the FBI auto-internet-scanners find my post, if it ever gets flagged for review by a human being, I want them to know that my message to them is, precisely, PPPHHHHHHHTTTTTTTT!

You misunderstood the nature of my post because that's easy to do with posts; it was tongue in cheek and meant the usual jokes we make about "We don't have many options, so we started a non-prof to stick it to The Man...but we're non political..ahem".

In light of THAT, good thing we also have LJ to fight The Man too, huh?
