“Russian intelligence officers who are part of the Russian military launched a concerted attack on our political system.”
That right there should be cause for concern. That single statement has vast implications, and should be result in immediate action. There should be sanctions, there should be demands for apology, there should be a major investigation into exactly what they did and how we can prevent it in the future.
Instead, we had an administration who tried to block all of those things. *That* is collusion. Letting the Russians act unimpeded and stopping all efforts to impede them should be considered collusion even if members of trump’s business, family, and campaign hadn’t met with Russian operatives and then lied about it.
Also, he made quite clear the reason why trump, although he did his best to obstruct the investigation, was not charged:
“...a president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office.”
That’s it. That’s the reason. He did not find him innocent. He did not conclude that there was no crime (“if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”) just that the president could not be charged with a crime while in office. He has to be impeached first.
“I will close by reiterating the central allegation of our indictments, that there were multiple, systemic efforts to interfere in our election. and that allegation deserves the attention of every American.”
Multiple systemic efforts to interfere in our elections. Every republican needs to ask themselves now why they are OK with that. Forget trump. Forget Hillary. Why are you perfectly fine accepting the fact that a foreign power is interfering in our elections and your party leadership has blocked every attempt to do anything about it?
